2013 Region 4 Conference NEWS (UPDATED 5/8/13)

Welcome to the 2013 Region 4 Conference, set for October 4-6, 2013 at the Airtel Plaza Hotel in Van Nuys, Calif.

Your hosts, the USS Angeles, wish you a great time as we celebrate our region’s accomplishments and our love for “Star Trek.”

You’ll have opportunities to see the Space Shuttle Endeavour, the filming site that served as Starfleet Headquarters and Academy, and hear speakers discuss “Star Trek.”

You’ll see awards presented for Region 4 and learn more about your region and STARFLEET. And you’ll get to rub elbows with other chapters.

EVENT SCHEDULE (As of 5/1/2013)

    • Friday, Oct. 4
      5 to 7 p.m. Ten Forward Happy Hour. A meet-and-greet with a no-host bar in the lounge in the lobby of the Van Nuys Airtel Plaza Hotel. We’ll get together for dinner in the nearby hotel restaurant afterward.
    • Saturday, Oct. 5
      Participants buy breakfast on their own.
      All of the daytime and evening programming at the hotel is the banquet room.
      9 a.m. General Session: Welcoming remarks and State of the Region address by Regional Coordinator Jerry Tien.
      10 a.m. Region 4 General Discussion Panel.
      11 to 11:45 a.m. To be announced.There will be two separate tracks of afternoon programming.
      TRACK 1
      Noon. We’ll leave to see the space shuttle Endeavour at the California Science Center at Exposition Park in Los Angeles.
      1 p.m. We arrive at the center to see space shuttle Endeavour, a shuttle exhibit, and Apollo, Mercury and Gemini capsules. This would include lunch at the center’s first-floor cafe.
      4 p.m. We leave the center and return to the hotel.
      TRACK 2
      1 to 4 p.m. For those who choose not to attend the away mission to the science center, there will be informal programming at the banquet/daytime programming room at the hotel. Gloria Rodriguez, the USS Angeles first officer, and Angeles Command Staff member Renee Wike are coordinating the programming.We’re now all together again for the evening.

      7 p.m. Awards/Speakers Banquet: The banquet will feature the Region 4 awards ceremony and remarks by Regional Coordinator Jerry Tien. Other speakers to be announced.

      11 p.m. Close of banquet.

    • Sunday, Oct. 6
      Participants buy breakfast on their own.
      10:15 a.m. We leave for the Japanese Garden, the Van Nuys site that served as Starfleet Academy and Starfleet Headquarters in the various “Star Trek” TV spinoffs. Participants need to arrange their own transportation and pay $3 admission at the garden.
      11 a.m. We have a dual docent-guided tour of the Japanese Garden. The garden’s docent will cover the Japanese Garden aspects, and USS Angeles members will point out specific “Star Trek” filming locations. We’ll leave the Japanese Garden at 1:30 p.m.
      2 p.m. Lunch at a restaurant close to the hotel.
