NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — USS Angeles members splashed down this summer at our fun pool party.
Jeremy Kranz hosted the annual event July 6 at his Northridge home, where he and Paul Szymborski threw a Frisbee back and forth in the pool. Lisa Sobien and Jenny Taylor stood and chatted in the pool, and I swam a couple laps before chilling in the hot tub with Lisa and Jenny. We laughed a lot to the point that Lisa was in tears. (See the photo.)
Before the pool festivities, we enjoyed salads, sandwiches and tomatoes at a table in the shade on a comfortably warm day.
The fun afternoon in the Los Angeles area ended with some unexpected drama when I entered a restroom to change out of my swimsuit.
Around that time, a bee stung me!
Lisa, who’s a pro with first aid, immediately removed the stinger. I left the restroom into the adjacent fitness studio.
Jeremy got ibuprofen for me and a plastic bag of ice for my right arm, where the bee stung me.
Jenny, a registered nurse at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, wrapped the ice around my arm, and Paul helped me that night as well.
After saying goodbye to Jeremy, Lisa drove my car, and we followed Jenny and Paul to a nearby pharmacy, where Jenny bought Benadryl (diphenhydramine). The swelling decreased quickly after I took the antihistamine.
Jenny, Paul, Lisa and I went on to Simi Valley, where we had an early celebration of Lisa’s birthday (July 29) at Sake 2 Me Sushi. Former Angeles member Marci Wormser, along with friends Remy Matzen and Laura Garcia and Remy’s cousin from France, joined us there.
We had a great time with the sushi, teriyaki chicken and teriyaki salmon. The restaurant’s servers sang “Happy birthday” to Lisa and brought a dessert that she shared with others.
The day ended with smiles and laughter on dry land after an afternoon in the pool. Thank you for hosting, Jeremy!
