TORRANCE — Paul Szymborski soaked me with everything he had!
Paul and I duked it out with Super Soakers and similar weaponry Sept. 8 during the USS Angeles’ first water water at Wilson Park.
Paul had the upper hand with his technology, but I felt I offered a good defense. Lisa Sobien later joined me in an alliance against the Symborski Machine. Lisa brought her skill, and I wore my Aquaman T-shirt for good luck.
Watching us were Jenny Taylor, Jennifer Cole and Janice Willcocks, who organized the event. Jenny took photos for Angels Flight, our club’s newsletter, and this website, and Janice took pictures that she immediately posted on the Angeles Facebook page. Jennifer, Janice and I also walked around the park and found a band playing in an amphitheater in an area that used to be a pond.
Later that day, I surprised Lisa by joining a conga line that formed on stage during the concert. (Well, Lisa wasn’t too surprised. She knows me!)
Before the water battles, Jennifer, Janice, Jenny, Paul and I enjoyed our sack lunches at a picnic table. That evening, Lisa, Paul and I had coffee, hot chocolate and treats at a coffee shop.
More photos, including a group photo, will appear in the December issue of Angels Flight. To receive the newsletter, click on “Join us” on this website.
