Welcome aboard the Web site of the USS Angeles!

We are the Los Angeles chapter of STARFLEET: The International Star Trek Fan Association, Inc. Janice Willcocks — the original commanding officer and current first officer — began the ship in 1995 to bring people together to enjoy the "Star Trek" and sci-fi universe. (Besides "Trek," we're also fans of shows varying from "Doctor Who" to "Battlestar Galactica.")

Since 1995, we have done everything from producing our own feature-length movie ("USS Angeles; The Price of Duty"), to participating in special events such as the 2009 premiere of the latest "Star Trek" movie in Hollywood.

We boldly go to sacred filming sites of the various "Star Trek" shows and movies — everywhere from Vasquez Rocks in Agua Dulce (that's where Capt. Kirk fought the Gorn!) to the Japanese Garden in Van Nuys (that's Starfleet Academy and Headquarters!) We've also been to Charlton Flats in the Angeles National Forest, which doubled as Montana in "Star Trek: First Contact," and the Ferndell area in Griffith Park, which became Bajor in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." In 2006, we journeyed to Yosemite National Park and saw El Capitan — the mountain Capt. Kirk tried to scale in "Star Trek V: The FInal Frontier."

In the greater Los Angeles area, we regularly hold parties at members' homes, where we play games, watch "Star Trek" episodes and films and sometimes hear guest speakers. Our activities also include missions to Disneyland and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. And we are involved in community service projects such as AIDS Walk Los Angeles and packages for overseas troops.

We also have had special away missions to faraway planets — in other words, Las Vegas!

Yes, we're a busy ship, and our prime directive is to " have fun and pass the chocolate."

Our activities have led us to some attention. In 2001, 2004, & 2008 the Angeles was named Chapter of the Year by STARFLEET's Western area, Region 4.

We keep our members informed through this Web site and our award-winning newsletter, Angels Flight. The latter is available to those who'd like a hard copy through a standard membership or a PDF version through an electronic membership (see here for prices and how to join). Members also receive calendar updates and other announcements and can comment on USS Angeles activities or "Star Trek" through our Angeles-Chat e-mail listserve. Nonmembers can get notices through the announcement-only Angeles-News listserve, Both lists are hosted by Yahoo! Groups.

We generally have more than 70 members, including seven who serve on the Command Staff, the central governing council made up of First Officer Janice Willcocks, Second Officer Gloria Rodriguez, Chief Financial Officer Goldie Chaikin, Chief of Operations Chris Esquibel, Membership Services Director Jennifer Cole, Command Advisor Jackie Bundy, and myself.

We would love for you to join our ship! Feel free to contact me at DaveMason1701@aol.com

Live long, prosper and have fun!
