“Orville” Away Mission Old West Awaits

3 (Saturday) at 1:30 p.m.: The futuristic “Orville” and the Old West await the USS Angeles. First, we’ll meet for a photo op at Baxter Healthcare, 1 Baxter Way, Westlake Village 91362. The building’s sci-fi architecture made it ideal as the Planetary Union headquarters in “The Orville,” a light-hearted yet poignant take on a “Star Trek”-like universe. After we eat at a nearby restaurant, we’ll head to Paramount Ranch, 2903 Cornell Road, Agoura Hills 91301. The site, part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and its Western town have served as the filming location for everything from CBS’ “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” (1993-1998) to Hallmark Channel movies including a Western. Angeles members on this mission will learn more about Paramount Ranch and its place in movie history. There’s no fee to enter Paramount Ranch or park there. It’s open until dusk. For more information on the Baxter building, contact Jeremy Kranz or Dave Mason for more information.
