Crew loves ‘Star Trek Beyond’

By Fleet Capt. Dave Mason
“Star Trek Beyond” impressed USS Angeles members July 23 at Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood.
“That was better than ‘Star Trek Into the Darkness,’” Founder Janice Willcocks said immediately after the end credits.
The 11 members in Arclight Cinemas’ famed Cinerama Dome enjoyed the plot that moves the iconic characters forward and pays homage to “Star Trek’s” past. It’s easily the most original of the three “Star Trek” movies produced by J.J. Abrams in his revised Kelvin timeline.
Members at Arclight Cinemas were Janice, Second Officer Jennifer Cole, Community Service Director Karen Hoagland, Associate Community Service Director Renee Wike, Assistant Chief of Operations Chris Mulrooney, Command Staff member Cliff Gardner and members Donna Gardner, Jenny Taylor, Paul Szymborski, Lisa Sobien and I.
After seeing the movie, the crew praised the movie for the originality of the story co-written by Simon Pegg (Scotty) and Doug Jung (who has an important cameo) and the directing style of Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious”).
More details will be in the September issue of Angels Flight, a newsletter for members. (See “Join us” above.) It’s exciting to see “Star Trek” move ahead in its 50th anniversary year with a film that sets the stage for the future.
