Lights dimmed for Grace Lee Whitney

Grace Lee Whitney, the enthusiastic actress who played Janice Rand in the original “Star Trek” series and later reprised that character in four “Trek” movies and a “Star Trek: Voyager” episode, has died. She was 85.
She passed away over the weekend in Coarsegold, Calif., her family reported.

The USS Angeles dims its lights in honor of the actress, who was a joyful spirit at “Star Trek” conventions and inspiration to fans. Grace, who was a recovering alcoholic, worked to help people with addiction problems. At conventions, she was consistently one of the most friendly stars.
She will be missed. The hearts of the USS Angeles go out to her family. She will be remembered for her contribution to the original “Star Trek” series and her warmth toward fans.
