SAN DIEGO — Rebecca Romijn, who played the shape-shifting Mystique in the “X-Men” films, will portray Number One during the second season of “Star Trek: Discovery,” the prequel series on CBS All-Access.
Majel Barrett Roddenberry originally played Number One, the Enterprise’s first officer, in the “Star Trek” pilot, “The Cage.”
Anson Mount will play Capt. Christopher Pike of the USS Enterprise as the series continues after the ending of the Klingon War. Mount told fans at San Diego Comic-Con International that Chris Hunter, the son of Jeffrey Hunter, who played Pike in the first “Star Trek” pilot, gave his blessing to the new actor as Pike.
The second season will stream, beginning in January on CBS All-Access. Before then, four “Short Treks” will air in December, basically brief films focusing on characters.
Other highlights of the convention included Jodie Whittaker, the new Doctor on “Doctor Who.”
More about “Discovery,” Doctor Who and other facets of Comic-Con will appear on this website next week and in the September issue of Angels Flight, the USS Angeles newsletter. Included will be comments made by the “Star Trek” actors during a press conference after the Comic-Con panel and an Angels Flight interview with Rod Roddenberry, the son of “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry. Stay tuned.
