Ship views sci-fi movies on big screen

By Fleet Capt. Dave Mason
Commanding officer, USS Angeles
USS Angeles members recently watched “X-Men: Apocalypse” under the stars in the ceiling of the historic Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara, Calif.
It’s part of our summer movie series.
For “X-Men,” we had the balcony to ourselves in the 2,000-seat auditorium, used both for films and concerts, during the Angeles mission. The interior features stars on the ceiling and a three-dimensional re-creation of a village with Spanish architecture on the walls. The elaborate lobby includes a settee (an elegant sofa) used on the set of “Gone with the Wind.”
We were impressed with the film. My favorite movie of the franchise, though, remains the first “X-Men” movie with the original cast led by Patrick Stewart.
We’ll continue to see movies in July: “Independence Day: Resurgence,” “Ghostbusters” and “Star Trek Beyond.” You’re welcome to join us for the films. For details about these Los Angeles screenings, contact me at dave@ussangeles.org. And to join our club, click on “Join us” above.
Live long and prosper!
