UPDATED: Members OK as Thomas Fire grows

By Fleet Capt. Dave Mason
UPDATED on Dec. 18: USS Angeles members remain OK as the Thomas Fire approaches becoming the largest fire in recorded California history. No one in our club has had to evacuate.
As of Dec. 18, the fire was 50 percent contained, and 271,000 acres have burned.

The sun was red in Goleta, just north of Santa Barbara Dec. 9. While blue skies and a yellow sun are back, there’s dark smoke in Montecito  as the fire grows to more than 290,00 acres. Angeles members haven’t had to evacuate. (Photo by Lisa Sobien)

Direct Relief, a Goleta-based nonprofit known for its international efforts and endorsed by Zachary “Spock” Quinto and the USS Angeles, continues to partner with other agencies to provide free masks as residents deal with air quality.
